Most browsers will give you the option of opening a link in a new tab or window if you Right-Click on the link. For Touch Screens and single-button mice the same effect can usually be achieved by a Long-Click or Long-Touch.
However this is slow and cumbersome so browsers that are used with a keyboard have shortcuts that have the same effect. Unfortunately these shortcuts vary between browsers. To help you out a guide chart to the proper shortcut for those browsers I have information for is shown below.
Some browsers may also allow you to change them or activate a mode where all links open in new windows. So this chart is shows the default behaviour only - if you have changed it I'm afraid you are on your own!
Browser | Version | Open New Tab in Background | Open New Tab in Foreground | Open New Window |
---|---|---|---|---|
Firefox | All (?) | Control + Click | Control + Shift + Click | Shift + Click |
